Web Bots have been around for a long time and in some cases have legitimate, practical purposes for the users. Nick Bilton in a April 20 New York Times piece “Friends, and Influence, for Sale Online,” gives an update look at bots being used to pump up statistics and in some cases affect social behavior online. Have you ever chosen one YouTube video over another based on the higher number of views? What if you knew the owner of that video had purchased the majority of those views from a bot service like Zeus? Once again proving you can’t always believe what you read online!
